Project Details
The sound of a note, the frequency of sound, the image of a frequency.
With the software we have developed, we transform sound frequencies into geometric images. The algorithm running within the software takes the frequency values of the transmitted sound and, with the help of various parameters, generates visuals. In the context of art, the software is not a final product but the process itself. Although the artist may have full control over the software and its system, the resulting products do not reflect this control. The system and its structure are the determining factors in the artist’s work. The geometries that emerge from the sound and frequency values are unpredictable. In this sense, the relationship between the artist and the artwork becomes ambiguous. The physical properties and motion of the sound are reflected in the algorithm—in a way, it attempts to mimic nature. The algorithm developed around this idea has been objectified. It is unclear whether the uniqueness of the resulting product lies in the visuals or in the algorithm that created them. The answer to this question is ambiguous. The work can be seen as the artist’s manipulation of nature and the physical rules behind it. In the end, the visuals produced are as surprising to the artist as they are to the viewer.
