Unite Us is developed during Art Game Jam 2019 @ BUG Istanbul.
Project Details
Unite Us, an engaging two-player game, was crafted with creativity and insight during the Art Game Jam 2019 hosted at BUG Istanbul. The theme of the jam, "Us," inspired a unique gameplay concept centered on the universal human experience of conflict and reconciliation. This game not only reflects conflicts that arise between individuals but also those that we internally grapple with. It's an artistic interpretation of how we, as individuals or as a society, often find ourselves in situations where we must bridge differences and work together to achieve harmony and progress.
In Unite Us, players embark on a collaborative journey where the primary objective is to harmonize the colors on the screen. This symbolizes the process of finding common ground. Each level presents a pair of separated twins, representing duality and division, positioned on opposite sides of the screen. The players control these twins, navigating through a series of interactive crystals scattered throughout the level. Each crystal encountered alters the background's color, adding layers of complexity and strategy to the game.
The game's design ingeniously uses color as a metaphor for compromise and cooperation. Players must communicate, strategize, and sometimes make concessions to align the colors, reflecting the real-world dynamics of conflict resolution. The game mechanics subtly encourage players to consider the other's perspective, promoting empathy and understanding in a playful context.
As the levels progress, the challenges become more intricate, requiring increasingly sophisticated collaboration. This escalation not only keeps the gameplay exciting and engaging but also mirrors the often complex nature of real-life conflicts and resolutions. The varying shades and hues encountered represent the diverse perspectives and solutions that can emerge from collaborative efforts.
